This Easter I am sending you some homework.
- 1st Year ESO have to write a summary of a chapter of the book The Secret of Stones and describe your favourite character.
- 2nd Year ESO have to write a biography of a king/queen of Spain or a Spanish president. You can use the ideas given on the activities of the book.
- 3rd Year ESO have to choose one topic and write a parragraph. Your parragraph should be at least 30 words long.
- Does Leroux make the Opera Ghost seem like a real person?
- Choose one of the incidentes in the story and write about it from the point of view of someone who was there. Who are you and what happened?
- Which character in the story do you think is the most realistic? Explain why this character is convincing.
CHAPTER THREE
ResponderEliminarThe family enter in the house. In the house there are four bedrooms and two bathrooms, there are a big kitchen and a living room too. Then, comes home an old man, his name is Mr. Carter, he is the caretaker. Shortly after, comes Mrs. Black, she's the housekeeper. At the night, the family have dinner and they go to sleep, everyone, except uncle Stephen; he can't sleep.

During the Easter holidays of 1956, at the family residence in Estoril, Juan Carlos accidentally fired a gun while playing with his younger brother Alfonso and Alfonso killed with the gun.
In 14 of may of 1962 he married in Atenas with the pricess Sofía of Greece.
He have trhee children Elena (1963), Cristina (1965) and Felipe (1968).
And fortunately for him, he it is not dead yet.

ResponderEliminarI´m Monsieur Moncharmin. Me and Monsieur Richard were in the office when we saw a letter from the Opera Ghost. The most important part of the letter said: I must have my private box and Christine must sing the protagonist's part tonight. The opera started and Carlotta was singing the protagonist's part, she sang beautifully. During the interval, me and Richard left the box. When Carlotta started to sing she sounded like a frog, we were horrified. She tried to sing again well, but she couldn't. We heard the ghost laughing behind us. The enourmous chandelier fell on the head of a fat woman and she died.
The story of the phanton of the opera is specially about love. I think Christine is the most realistic character in the story. Christine was a opera singer and she had to choose between Erik (the gost) and Raoul (a rich aristocrat).

Alfonso XIII of Spain.
ResponderEliminarAlfonso XIII was born in Madrid. His parents were Alfonso XII and Maria Cristina de Habsburgo-Lorena. He lived in Spain and he was a king of Spain from 1886 until 1931. His father died soon and Alfonso became a king. His mother was his regent until his 16th birthday. He married the british princess, Vistoria Eugenia de Batterberg. She was niece of Edward VII and she was granddaugther of Queen Victoria. They had six children, Alfonso, Jaime, Beatriz, Maria Cristina, Juan and Gonzalo. Alfonso XIII is famous because he was a king of Spain, he was the last king of Spain before the Republic. He died in Rome on 1931.Alfonso XIII buried in El Escorial, Madrid. After his death, his sucessor was his son Juan, father of the king of Spain, Juan Carlos I.

ResponderEliminarAdolfo Suarez was the first president of Democracy in Spain. He was born on September 25, 1932 in Cerberos. Suarez was never a good student. He went through several schools, not reading and hobbies had more to do with the holidays, sports and card games. Years later he studied law at Salamanca. He married Amparo Illana Elórtegui (1961-2001) and they had had 5 children: Mariam, Adolfo, Laura, and Javier Sonsoles. It was a Spanish lawyer and politician and prime minister of Spain between 1976 and 1981. He died recently of pneumonia, on March 23 this year with 81.

Felipe XII is Francico de Asís de Borbon’s and Isabel’s son. He was born the 28th of November of 1857.He lived in the Real Palace in Madrid.

He married to his cousin Maria de las Mercedes de Orleans. She died six months later and the King wanted to married again. Only a year later, he married to Maria Cristina de Habsburgo-Lorena.
The king had three children with Maria Cristina. The first child was a girl called Maria de las Mercedes and the second was a girl too. Her name was Maria Teresa. The king wanted a son so they had another baby. It was a boy called Alfonso XIII.
Alfonso XII was very ill and he died in 1885 in Madrid. After that, his son Alfonso XIII was the King.

King Philip II, son of Carlos V, was born in 21th May 1527 in Valladolid (Spain). He was crowned in 1556 when he was 29 years old. His nickname was Philip the Prudent. He was a very important king because he began the Golden age and conquered a lot of territories in the world. The Philippines are named after him. The expression "The Empire on which the sun never sets" shows the extent of his possessions. He built the Palace of the Escorial. He got married four times:
His 1st wife Maria of Portugal gave him a son, Carlos of Austria.
His 2nd wife Mary Tudor of England didn’t give him a son.
His 3rd wife Isabel de Valois gave him two daughters, Isabel Clara Eugenia and Catalina Micaela.
His 4th wife Ana of Austria gave him four sons and one daughter, Fernando, Carlos Lorenzo, Diego Felix, Felipe III and María.
He died in 13th of September 1598 in El Escorial. When he died, Felipe III became king.

When he was young he was military, but he want was sailor, and when he was old became head of state or president of Spain. He married with Carmen Polo, and he had a daughter Carmen Franco. He is famous because he was a dictator and he killed thousands and thousands of people. He died in Madrid (Spain) in 20 of November in 1975. After his death, Spain was devastated with a lot of problems.

Laura and Max go to the explore the smalll village of Stonecross. They are hot and they decide go to the newsagent's to buy two cans of coke. The shop keeper is very unfriendly and she says that Stonecross isn't a place for tourist. After that they meet a man that is wearing a darck suit and a tie with a strange desing in it. He ask about their names and when and when they says that they surnames is Marel, the man is suprise. The man called Martin Knight, ask about the famous historian Stepehen Marel is your dad and the twins says no he is our uncle. The man asks them about what he is studing about an old book of mysteries and secrets. Martin Knight says, this old book is very interested and their uncle and he wants meet the twins the next day.
Laura doesen't like Martin Knight and she says they must go home to have lunch.
Description of a character:
The uncle Stephen:
The uncle is the famous historian Stephen Marel. He goes with his family on holidays to Stonecross. During the holidays he works in an old book of mysteries and secret codes.
One day there is a thiefin the cottage where they stay, the thief looked for the old book but he didn't find it. Other day the house keeper Mrs Black hit uncle Sthepen's head with a rolling pin and he lose the conscience. The police arrest Mrs Black and her soon because they are in a band secret. The uncle doesen't remember any thing and the secret of the stones dosen´t solve.
Hi Sara, I´m Dario Coloma. The topic that I have chosen is the third, I´m the fat woman, madame Giry´s replacement. I was doing my work while Carlotta started to sing when she croaked like a frog, all the people in the opera was shoked and Carlotta try to sing, but she croaked again. Suddenly the chandelier fell and hit me on the head and I died inmmediately.

ResponderEliminarI’ve put in the role of a woman in the audience during the performance of Carlotta.
That night, I´ve assisted at the Opera House, I wanted to listen Carlotta, she was the protagonist and a very important singer in Europe. There were a lot of people eager to see her.
When she came on stage, everyone fell silent, although everyone was surprised when she started a croaked like a frog. Then there was a murmur in the audience, she kept croaking.
Carlotta was looking worried and surprised
I was very upset; I had paid an expensive ticket for this concert.
Suddenly there was a big noise, accompanied by screams and ... silence.
Everyone watched with horror face the chandelier that had fallen from the ceiling that had fallen on a lady.
I and another people tried to help her but the chandelier was too heavy.
Then the guards of the Opera House asked at the audience to go out.
On the street were some ambulances.
The next morning in the newspaper I saw the picture of the Opera House. I read the woman had died, she had many damaged organs, I also read she was the future responsible of one of the boxes at the opera.
I didn´t go back to the opera until after two years of the event, when I returned I sat as far possible from the place of the incident.

Uncle Sthepen understand the symbol of the brooch, it is a three symbols, three parts of Stonecross, the circle is similar to Stonehenge, the triangle is similar to the three hills and the cross is similar to the stone cross on the hill near to cottage.

Suddenly, Mrs Black coming in the study and she says: Give me that book¡
MAX
Max is a boy. He is Andrew and Shara's son, and Laura's brother. Laura and Max are twins. They live in London. He like exploring. Max always go together whit his sister and exploring together.
I think Erik is the most realistic character. He is a composer who lives beneath the stage of the Opera. And he fears the owners of the opera. After a bad childhood is going to live in the opera and falls in love with Christine, the singer of the opera.

ResponderEliminarI´m Carlotta, the protagonist in Faust. I started my appearance in the history because I received an anonymous letter, it said what I´m not sing that night. At after other letter saying the same. I laughed, I was not worried. I was singing the protagonist´s part. They say and I think sing very beautifull. When I started to sing, passed a horrible thing: I was singing like a frog, I wanted stopped but the managers sayed me what continue. But returned the same.We heard the ghost´s voice and the chandelier down.The chandelier crashed on the heard and died.

My answer for your question is: Yes, I think that Gaston Leroux wants to make the ghost like a person, for does the story more realistic. He pretends to make the the ghost like an evil, because it has holes like eyes, ir writes with red ink like ir it was blood, and all of this are very scary!

In 1975 he married with Princess Sofia and they have 3 childrens. The childrens are called, the first one Elena, the second one Cristina and the last one Felipe now Prince of Asturias.
Juan Carlos is famous because he is the king of Spain.
1 - Hi Sara, thing Leroux make the Opera Ghost, like a person, because he put the name of Erik, and he is like a person, even he is more Madman like a normal person.

The family went into the cottage. It was very big. They we talking about Stephen´s job and suddenly a man knock at the door. It was a man called Mr Carter, the caretaker, he was very kind because he told them that they had to be careful with a woman colled Mrs Black, the housekeeper. She helps with the cooking and cleaning.
My favourite character is Mr Carter. He is a man, the caretaker. He looks after the cottage when no one is in it. He is a very good person because he told to them that Mrs Black is a woman dangeous. And finally, he save them for the thieves.

Chapter 5: A visit to Stonhenge
When the twins get home, The parents said they will to Stonhenge because is very famous for the english people and they are very nice and very old . Stonhenge is a very old monument in the south of England. Is near to Stonecross They take the cars and in twenty minutes they are there. Mrs Black said when They will arrive to Stonhenge, They visit a circle of old stones is spectacular, around the stones there is a fence. In the trip They listen an audio-guide and they start to walk around the enormous stone circle. Uncle Stephen looks the old book of mysteries of stones. Around the fence there are three hill and many trees. Later Stephen read his book again and look the stones and the hills around them.
Finally Stephen puts his book in his bag and follows the others.
SUMMARY:

Chapter 3
ResponderEliminarUncle Stephen is a historian. Max, Laura and their mother talks about Stephen. In that moment, caretaker knocks the door, his name is Mr. Charter. He has white hair and an angry face, and he says "if you have a problem, tell me".. Suddenly, housekeeper knocks the door, she is Mr. Black. She helps cooking and cleaning.
Finally, they eat a big dinner and they are very tired, but Stephen can't sleep because he is thinking about the book he is studying.
Mrs. Black is a houskeeper. She has got a happy voice. She is quite old, fat but she is prett. She is in secret organisation, it is the Black Knights. Finally, she is arrested with her son Martin Knight, because they want to steal the old book about mysteries and secret of uncle Stephen
